Why Aware exists
Mobile money changed how Uganda handles money. MTN MoMo and Airtel Money made it easy to send, receive, and pay — but they left out the part where you see the full picture. Your balance updates. Your history disappears into a list of SMS messages you never re-read.
Aware fills that gap. It reads those SMS messages automatically, sorts every shilling into a category, and shows you where your money went — the instant it moves.
Why local-first?
SMS messages contain your entire financial history. Sending that to a server — any server — creates a risk we weren't willing to take. Aware processes and stores everything on your device. We have no copy of your data. We can't lose it, leak it, or sell it.
This isn't a constraint we work around. It's the architecture we designed for.
The team
Aware is built by a small team in Kampala. We're fintech users before we're fintech builders — we built Aware because we needed it ourselves.
