How Aware handles messages, cash, connectivity, and access—without hand-waving the important parts.
No. Aware checks supported MTN MoMo and Airtel Money transaction messages on your phone so it can create ledger entries. Raw SMS is not uploaded, and personal conversations are not used.
By default, your ledger lives in a local database on your phone. If you enable cloud backup, processed transactions, budgets, categories, profile details, and selected settings sync to Aware’s Supabase database under your authenticated account. Raw SMS is never included. Google may be used to sign you in, but it does not receive your financial records.
Yes. Aware reads the money messages from both MTN MoMo and Airtel Money in Uganda. You can also add cash expenses by hand in a few taps.
Add cash spending manually in a few taps. It lives in the same ledger as your mobile-money activity, so your daily totals and budget view still reflect the money that left your pocket.
Not yet. Aware currently focuses on MTN MoMo, Airtel Money, and cash.
The core of Aware works offline. It reads your money messages, builds your ledger, and shows your spending and budgets without a data connection. You only need internet if you choose to back up your ledger.
Aware is getting ready for a wider release on Android 9 and newer. Join the early-access list and we’ll let you know when it opens up.
When you first open Aware, it asks for permission to read your money messages. Tap “Allow”. If you denied it by mistake, go to Settings → Apps → Aware → Permissions → SMS → Allow. The help centre has a step-by-step guide for common Android phones in Uganda.
